In order to celebrate their new release, Hacienda is giving away a free download of "I Keep Waiting" off their new album Big Red and Barbacoa.

Click the image below to play it!

Also check out Hacienda as their alter ego The Fast Five on support of Dan Auerbach's solo tour last year.

A while back I was contacted by Backyard Tire Fire's manager to help spread the word about their upcoming record release concert in Chicago this weekend.  Unfortunately it slipped my mind until just now to post it on my blog (although in my defense I did contact all of my Chicago friends earlier in the week to spread the word).

He also mentioned that they will be playing their hearts out to impress some radio people there so I'm guessing you are going to get your moneys worth ($15) and more.

Tickets are still available so if you live near the windy city go get em!

Here's a video for the title track "Good To Be"

I'm admittedly an OK Go noob so I've kind of been wondering what they sound like live.  Well thanks to an update I just saw from their Facebook account I now know.  That's right...get a free download for a live version of White Knuckles.  The only catch is that you need to have a Twitter account.

Oh and the answer to my question of how they sound live...really really good.  Here's their live performance on last night's Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson as further evidence.  Also anyone in the Kansas City area should check out their free concert at the Midland this Saturday (they're big fans of the whole free concept apparently).

I accidentally attached the wrong file to Episode #59 so if you updated the podcast on Friday you may have gotten the wrong one. Here is how to re-update the podcast in Itunes (other podcast-catchers are probably similar).

That's what I get for posting it at 11:30 at night.

In case you didn't know Jack White, The Edge, and Jimmy Page made a movie together last year.  I haven't seen it yet but the Blu-Ray version is currently sitting at the top of my Netflix queue.

I love this quote from Jack White:
"I plan to trick both of these guys into teaching me all of their tricks"

Make sure to watch this trailer in 720p...amazing.

Here are some more links related to the last podcast...specifically the rock-hip-hop collaboration album Blakroc. First off, my favorite track from the album.

Next up a link to some behind the scenes video during the recording sessions.

The artists on this season of PBS' Austin City Limits are really blowing me away.  Here are links to just a few of the amazing live performances they have featured on the ACL stage.

Dave Matthews
Ben Harper and Relentless 7
Pearl Jam
Kings of Leon (not from this season but still awesome)

Other episodes can be found here.

A friend recently introduced me to a great IPhone App for the website Daytrotter, which hosts exclusive versions and unreleased tracks for an impressive list of artists.  The interface on the site isn't quite as handy as the IPhone App but that is more than made up for by giving you the option to download all content in MP3.  The number of sessions is a little overwhelming (currently 772!) so here's a few to get you started.

Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears
Backyard Tire Fire
Blitzen Trapper
Brendan Benson
Cage the Elephant
Grace Potter & the Nocturnals
Mason Jennings

So you may be asking your why is there a blog post featuring Philip Glass studio tracks on a site that is supposed to be about live music?  Two reasons.  First, when I find something free and good on the internets I like to share it with as many people as I can.  Secondly you may be slightly surprised to find out that one of his compositions has been featured on a Live Music Podcast episode.  If you listen to Pearl Jam's intro for Episode 53 you will hear his song Metamorphisis (unfortunately it is not on the sampler).

I watched the blue-ray for this concert at a friend's house last night and was blown away by maybe the best encore imaginable. Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones joined the Foo Fighters for insane covers of Rock and Roll and Ramble On. I can't even imagine what it would have been like to see that live...talk about getting your money's worth.

Apparently my memory is already starting to fail me.  If the music from Episode 53 sounded a little familiar it's because I had already featured the exact same concert on Episode 30.  A few of the songs were different but the majority were in both episodes.  On the bright side this may be the best audience recording of any band I have ever heard, so if I'm going to post a concert twice I'm glad it was this one.

To make up for the lack of new content here are several Pearl Jam recordings I was also considering for this episode.

Pearl Jam - Chicago, IL - 8/23/09
Pearl Jam - Chicago, IL - 8/24/09
Pearl Jam - Seattle, WA - 9/21/09
Pearl Jam - Seattle, WA- 9/22/09

Sorry for the mix up and be ready for a brand new concert next week!

The Austin City Limits Music Festival starts today and luckily for all of us non-attenders Hulu will be streaming it live.  I'm especially looking forward to Sunday night with Relentless 7 and The Dead Weather.

Ideally I would have gotten this posted sooner than the day before the election.  However it looks like you can still get free music downloads from HeadCount.org by pledging to vote.  Free downloads are available from Phish, Dave Matthews Band, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Wilco w/ the Fleet Foxes, Younger Brother Live, and many more, but this offer may end after the election is over.  Click the following link for your freebies.

Besides downloading tons of live music another hobby of mine is listening to mashups.  If this is a new term for you, a mashup is a song created from parts of two or more songs put together.

I've been making my own mashup compilations for a while and this is one I've recently been working on for a Halloween party this Friday.  Feel free to use it at a Halloween gathering near you!

Track List:
1) This Is Halloween - Cheekyboy
2) The Withcdoctor vs the Exorcist - dj BC
3) Black Magic Thriller - Voicedude

6) Devil Went Down On Betty - Autopilot

In case you missed it on the Live Music Blog last week the Raconteurs have launched a live section on their website where you can listen to streaming audio from several concerts.  Currently there are nine shows from 2007 and one for 2008 but hopefully more will be added in the future.  If you like the Raconteurs you are definitely going to enjoy this.

So this is an email I received the other day from the Itunes Store...

Dear Podcast Owner

The following podcast has not been included in the iTunes podcast directory.

Name: The Live Music Podcast
Feed URL: http://www.livemusicpodcast.net/rss

Submissions may not be included in the directory for a variety of reasons. For more information, please see the podcast technical specification at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html.

Sincerely,

The iTunes Store Team

As you can imagine this was quite a shock to me since I have been podcasting for a little over a year and have been listed in the store for almost as long.  I have tried emailing them back for more of an explanation as to my termination but so far have not received a response.  The only explanation that I can think of is that 1) the management of one of the artists I featured complained or 2) someone who works for the store thought I was infringing on copyrights.  It's tough for me to know since the email contained such little information and rather than emailing me to allow me to remove any particular episodes they kill the entire show...way to take the shotgun approach.  Whoever it was probably failed to read my website's MP3 disclaimer which explains that I will voluntarily remove any music at the owners request.

The good news....fortunately this will not affect anyone that is already subscribed to my podcast.  Subscribed listeners should receive new episodes of the show automatically but if not you may have to re-add the rss feed.  If you haven't subscribed in Itunes you can still subscribe by selecting "Subscribe to Podcast" from the Advanced menu and entering http://www.livemusicpodcast.net/rss into the text box.

The biggest downer of this is that new listeners will have a much harder time finding my podcast without the aid of the Itunes store.  That being said, word of mouth will probably be the most effective advertisement which I leave in your hands. Another thing you can do to help out the LMP is email the Itunes Store to try to get the show reinstated.   If you would like to file a complaint click here and maybe if enough people bother them they will listen.

Thanks in advance for your support!

I apologize for not giving everyone more heads up on this, but I just got the email about it tonight.  If you are a fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, PBS Soundstage is airing a 2 part series featuring a recent performance from Gainesville, Florida and it begins tonight (Jan 10th).  Don't worry if you miss the first showing of Part 1 since it will be repeated throughout the week (at least in the Kansas City area).  To check your local listings click on the following links.

Part 1 - Premieres on PBS January 10, 2008 (check local listings)
Part 2 - Premieres on PBS January 17, 2008 (check local listings)

And for more live Tom Petty click on the following link to listen to a streaming concert hosted at Wolfgang's Vault.
